Flood Plain

So, as you may know, we live very near one of the largest rivers in the greater Seattle Area.  In fact, it is probably THE largest river.  This river flows from south to north, getting the run-off from a large section of the Cascade Mountains and eventually dumping all that water quite a ways north of Seattle in the Puget Sound.  We cross this river every time we want to go in to Redmond, or Seattle, or any of the major cities to our west.  Well, we got a large amount of rain over the weekend and this is the view of the road that we normally travel to get into town (looking west):

 

The river normally confines itself to the area just under that blue bridge.  Fortunately, the flood was not severe enough to crest the alternate route into the city several miles to the north so Scott was able to make it into work, and I was able to drive around to take a look at this road from the other side.  This picture is looking east from the other side.

And last, sorry for the general low quality of this picture, but this is looking down at the valley from the hill where our house is.  Normally, from this view you can’t even see the river, just grassy fields with cows.  Now it looks like we live next to a lake.   I will take a picture from this spot in a few days when the river has gone down so you can see what I mean.  I hope the farmer moved his livestock…
